Hook Preschool has been established since 1970 and is based in a church hall in the Hook Ward of Chessington, Surrey. It is a private sessional group and the current Owner/Manager has worked at the setting since 1990 and took over ownership of the business in 1995.The provision is set up and put away on a daily basis  and the premises are shared with other hirers outside of preschool hours. The provision is in a residential area in close proximity to the local Church of England Primary School.


Resources and equipment are set up daily for children to freely access activities of their choice, in zoned areas which cover all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. This enables the provision to provide a good balance of child initiated and adult led activities. There is daily ‘free flow’ access to the Outdoor Area with opportunities for planting, role play and activities following childrens interests. Visits to the adjacent park also provide opportunities for providing more space for ball games, ‘listening walks’, nature walks and the annual Sports day and Teddy Bears Picnic. There is a kitchen area for snack preparation and to enable regular cooking activities. The snack cafe provides healthy snacks and drinks and is accessed independently by children during ‘free play’.

I have had the pleasure of working at Hook Preschool since 1990, when my youngest child was attending. I started a few days a week as a parent helper and then became a permanent member of the team. As part of my professional development I  decided to complete a Childcare qualification, so embarked on a level 3 training course one day a week, whilst my 3 children were at school. I then became the Owner and Manager in October 1995 .Since Hook Preschool was started in 1970 by a group of mums in the church hall, I have been the longest serving Owner/Manager of the setting and have built strong relationships with families , schools and professionals in the community. I continue to enjoy every day at preschool and strive to help all children achieve good outcomes.
